Commissioner's gold group committee awards were
presented to two groups (1st Arden and another). Submission deadline for this
year's awards is June 30, 2003. All the requirements are good things we should
be doing, so this is a good objective for both the sections and the group
committee. Ken, as the group scouter, has to sign off on the award
submissions.
-
Group
scouters will be volunteering groups to organize the various area events at
their next meeting. If there is a specific area event you would like to
organize, just let Ken know.

Tim
Foreman is the new field executive replace John Wiersma. He starts in
January.
-
There
is a new webmaster for the region's website. Should see some improvement over
time. Discussion groups are available on the region's website as well
now.
-
Many of
the awards will be presented at a single ceremony this year, rather than one
at a time. The very important awards will still be presented as soon as they
are received.

Brian
Billings is taking over Scout Trees. Son of Les Billings who used to run it.
Kit will be available in the new year. Request has been made to have a kit for
each youth. 5000 trees will be planted. Drummund/North Elmsley site only (not
OMYA).

Whispering Pines was used for 71 days in the past
year. This is up from the year before. The number of people using the
campgound has increased as well. Groups must always sign the register and
indicate the number of people in the party. This is to ensure region can see
the camp ground use, and not shut it down. You can canoe from Opemikon to
Whispering Pines in two days - a trip often down by the Opemikon folks - one
of the reasons the camp ground will probably be saved (region/etc want to shut
some campgrounds down)
-
Area
funds are still under the control of the area service team (eg DACs) even
though the money is kept at region.
-
Noise
is being made at region about the number of forms that have to be filled out.
Especially since many of the forms duplicate information. ie they should be
combined on a single form.

Orientation needs to be completed for all new section
leaders. Keith is doing Doug. Hope/Alex will be doing Sarah/Chad/Mike.
Keith/Hope/Alex were picked as the person doing the orientation must have WBI
in the section of the new leader.

Gateway
course needed for all leaders that have not already done Gateway or a
WBI. This is Sarah, Marion, Chad, Doug, Tara, Paul. Someone please suggest a
date so we can start narrowing down when everybody can make it. Then I can get
