Notes from area meeting March 16,
2006
The area is offering
Woodbadge I courses for Beaver and Cub leaders on April 7th/8th. The course will
run 7pm-10pm on the Friday evening and 8:30am to 5:30pm on the Saturday. The
course format has been changed back to a more traditional approach with a focus
on what the leaders actually do every week/month. e.g.
ceremonies/games/crafts/activities/planning/etc. Roger Nuttall will be
distributing a course outline. Cost is $0. Lunch is included. It will be held at
the Westminster church in Smiths Falls (opposite Burger King). I highly
recommend this course be attended by all those leaders that haven't got their
WBI in their current (or future section). Kevin/John/Liz/Simon/Robert.
Ditto if there are any parents that are planning on being leaders next
year.
The area will do a
Scout Woodbadge I course at the same time if there are enough Scout leaders
interested. Alex/Keith/Robert are you
interested?
Scout NiteVent event
ideas to be distributed by Roger Nuttall to troops shortly. Each troop needs to
provide one event per patrol. So assuming both patrols enter the
competition, Merrickville will need to provide and run two
events.
Camp crest design
competition to be distributed shortly.
Valley Highlands
Beaveree on Saturday May 13th at Whispering Pines. 10am - 3pm. This is a new
event that was just added to replace the council Beaveree that has been
canceled.
Note that the spring
Cub camp, the Beaveree, and the Scout NiteVent are all at Whispering Pines on
the same weekend. Are the whitetails invited to the spring Cub camp
again?
Second in command
for the Lombardy fair needed this year. It is the August long weekend. Stan will
not be available to run the food booth next year (2007) so the 2IC is needed so
they can learn the ropes this year, and run it next year. Biggest effort is
signing up volunteers and transporting all the food to the
booth.
Jeff Benson (the
paid guy from the region) is no longer servicing Valley highlands. No
explanation. And we'll notice a difference? :)
The Cub Leaders'
offer to organise the spring area Cub camp (Impeesa) was very well received; as
was the boot camp theme. 70-85 Cubs and 30 adults are the expected
participation.
