Notes from Area meeting May 18,
2006
- Warren McMeekin,
Voyageur Council Commissioner, is still off with personal problems (nobody
knows quite what). He has been off for a month. It is not known if he is still
being paid.
- Lynn Levitan,
Voyageur Council registrar, is also off.
- Voyageur region
creating a court of honour to deal with leaders they don't like.
- CJ pre-camp might
be made mandatory by Voyageur. Would likely occur for a week in May/June
2007.
- 100 year anniversary crest
being designed. Would be worn forever by people in Scouting next
year.
- Crest for adults to
wear on their uniform if they were a Chief Scout as a kid.
- Call MPP and
petition them to add Scouting as an approved activity for the new child tax
credit.
- Only 100 Scouts
registered for regional Scout camp at Opemikon in June. Will be run at a loss.
Main reasons for lack of participation is that it was not very well advertised
and that it was too expensive ($22+food).
- Valley Highlands
registration at 93% of last year, Voyageur council at 90%.
- Remember to
complete registration form when camping at Whispering Pines.
Cubs!
- 39 Scouts in seven
"patrols" at NiteVent. Carleton Place took 1st and 2nd place, Merrickville
took 3rd.
- I got in trouble
for taking photographs at NiteVent.
- 96th Ottawa Cubs
camping at Whispering Pines the weekend of Impeesa. Will be invited to
participate in camp.
- Laura won the
Whispering Pines badge design competition.
- Area is trying to
add service Scouters that will visit sections to help them and to market area
events and training.
- The area leaders
will run all area events next year. Groups will not be allowed to run
them.
- Smiths Falls Cubs
raised $1,000 in a day on a bottle drive. This paid for their trip to Old Fort
Heny for a sleepover, indoor rock climbing, and a swim.
- Beaveree postponed
until June 10th.
- Awards portion of
leader and family day at Whispering Pines on June 10th has been canceled.
There will still be a fun day for leaders and their families at the camp after
the Beaveree is over.
- Next area meeting
June 15th.
