Notes from area meeting August 17,
2006
- Should have 8-9
people on area service team going around to help sections.
- Joan Smith will
be available to help with Beavers in Merrickville.
- If a registration
retention rate of 70% is reached, $15 will be refunded for each person
registered. March 31st, 2007 is the deadline to reach 70%.
- The CJ pre-camp has
moved to the weekend of May 11th. Cost is ~$25; don't know if that includes
food. At Apple Hill Scout reserve. Mandatory for all kids attending
CJ.
- NiteVent moved to
May 4th/5th.
- WBI in Kanata on
August 25th/26th.
- Region still saying
that leaders without WBI won't be allowed to re-register. Yeah right. Only
John Chambers on their hit list at the moment.
- Carleton Place
Beavers have done two one night camps with their Beavers (one at Whispering
Pines). Worked very well.
- Roger Nuttall (now
with no bushy white beard) has a tree identification list for Whispering
Pines.
- Lombardy Fair food
booth made a profit of $2,542.26. Jeff Criggar from Smiths Falls will be
organising the booth next year.
- $1,000 donation
received from a friend of Brian Billings (he organises Scout Trees each
year).
- Scout Trees on
track to have donation fully cover the cost again this year.
- Jim Britton, past
area commissioner and trainer, was awarded the medal of merit.
- Suggestion made to
put a memorabilia display at the Lombardy Fair next summer for the centenary.
Maybe use Merrickville Lion's stage trailer. Possible badge making machine and
turks head woggle making. Ron Lyons to organise. Historical stuff for the
adults and hands on stuff for the kids.
- Outdoor permission
forms need to be handed in. I forgot to bring them.
- Hobbies &
Wheels date will change due to it being placed on Easter
weekend.
- Elizabeth Docker
new chair for Carleton Place.
- Carleton Place
doing an all section camp at Whispering Pines in September.
- Almonte Venturers
on 4-5 day canoe trip in Algonquin. Scouts went to Dorchester Jamboree. Two
leaders going to World Jamboree. Venturers did Boat Rescue
course.
- Smiths Falls Cubs
had a summer camp. Sending eight kids and two leaders to CJ. Maybe three more
kids as well. Soliciting donations from local businesses to cover cost. Three
kids paid for so far.
