Merrickville Report for Area Meeting November 16, 2006
Events To Date
- Good Remembrance Day participation from all sections.
Beavers each made small crosses that they presented and installed during the
ceremony.
- Beavers had a fright night for Halloween and a
marshmallow golf tournament.
- Cubs each received signaling mirrors, and practiced
heliographing an aeroplane. Disection and discussion of first aid and survival
kits.
- Cubs made Guys and had a Guy Fawkes bonfire night.
Also had a fire department visit complete with obstacle course and fire hose
work.
- Scouts did an evening hike along local
roads.
- Scouts are working on plans for participation in
CJ07.
- Registration to date is 19 Beavers, 25 Cubs,
and 16 Scouts, for a total of 60
kids and 15 adults
(two new Beaver leaders on board). 70% retention refund cheque received from
council; still awaiting refund of registration
subsidies.
Future Events
- Beavers will be having a hayride at Big Sky Ranch and making
ice cream another evening.
- Beavers will
be having a joke night, a knot night, a Christmas party, and a lotto fun
night.
- Cubs will be
doing knots, orienteering, campfire songs, tracking signs, pioneering
catapults, making ice cream, and practicing first aid.
- Cubs planning a family swim evening at the Perth pool on the
last week of December.
- Scouts doing an overnight
hike in conjunction with the Merrickville
Pathfinders in Limerick Forest.
- Scouts will be designing and constructing a
float for the Merrickville Christmas parade.
- Scouts will be practicing shelter building
and having a first aid evening.
Miscellaneous
- Corrections sent regarding September area minutes
have not yet been incorporated into the official
version.
- Area bank balance in October area minutes showed a
$17,100 discrepancy versus that shown in September
minutes.
- Why was the PL camp canceled when only one area
leader was ill? Is this not a disservice to the Scouts and troops that had
committed to participate? Interestingly, the leader became ill the weekend
before, a reminder notice for the camp was issued on the Thursday,
and the cancellation notice issued on the Saturday of the
camp.
- Service Scouter
list not yet published, nor any information on their visits to
date.
- Area Gateway course syllabus not yet
published.
- Area equipment inventory not yet
published.
Issues
- No financial
statements published by the area for many years. We have a serious
fiduciary problem.
- Many area event
reports and financial statements not yet submitted for
2005/2006.
