Ready Pack / Survival Kit

As part of our Cub program, we will be assembling a "ready pack". The ready pack is useful anytime you venture into the woods and it can become a survivial kit if need be. It can be stocked from items you would normally find in most homes. If you use any of its contents, get into the practice of replacing them immediately upon your return, to make sure your pack is ready for use again.

RULES:

  1. If you are camping, remove ALL food from your ready pack. Put it back in upon your return.
  2. Knives are a restricted item at Cub camps, remove them from your ready pack.
  3. Matches and lighters are a restricted items at Cub camps, remove them from your ready pack.

The BIC lighter is not necessarily the "Scouting way" to light a fire, a magnifying glass, a match, or a flint is preferable. If you are stranded in the woods, wet and cold, the single most important thing is to get heat, how you get it is not important. Used correctly, a flint won't let you down.
