The original design of this flashlight (torch) came from the Exciting Scout Craft website. We modified the plan by utilising two LEDs and a smaller resistor. The power consumption is the same, but we get twice the light. i.e. Less voltage is dropped across the resistor. The resistor was sized to provide the maximum rated current and voltage to the LED based on a full 9V being supplied by the battery. Once load is applied to the battery, the supplied voltage soon drops to around 8V which brings the current and voltage at the LED down to it's typical ratings.
Our parts came from Active Components, but other stores exist that may be more approriate like Active Surplus.
