The Klondike Derby  is held the first weekend in March with Scout age teams participating on Saturday and Cub age teams on Sunday. It takes about 80 volunteers to run the Klondike derby. There are approximately 600 participants over the two days of the Klondike Derby

The Klondike Derby is a contest requiring team work and tests the "Scouting Skills" of Cubs and Scouts. Teams of 6 to 8 members pull a Klondike type sleigh over a course of approximately 2.5 km through the woods in Camp Amisk. The team visits ten Klondike "towns" where the "town mayor" assigns the team a particular task or activity. "Nuggets" and points are awarded to the team based on how well it performs the task, the speed and the teamwork. The instructions for the tasks are written based on the Klondike gold rush theme. The sleigh is loaded with equipment the team will need. Some of the equipment is mandatory while other items are required for the lunch stop or for the welfare of the youth (extra water, mitts etc).

The towns are staffed by a number of dedicated  Scouters, and their families (spouses, children). A number of the them have been with Klondike since its inception. In the past few years, a number of new leaders have gotten involved in Klondike also a number of Venturer companies have come forward to run the towns.

First aid services are provided at the Klondike Derby by the 49th GSAR  Venturer company. Two way radio communications between the derby headquarters and the town mayors is provided by the 1st Sun Valley Venturer Company.
