Other Kub Kar Fun Events
A variety of other fun events for Kub Kars and Beaver Buggies, from Jim Jenko (Cm207hike@aol.com),
Cub Master of Pack 207 in the US.
- I have been doing a pinewood derby fun day for probably four years. It is usually held
the frirst Saturday in January. I have tracks set up, I have a car cutting station, and
then a craft area to make a pinewood derby display.
-
- I have attached several photos of several different tracks that I have created. The
first is a loop track with a jump. Any fast car will make it thru the loop and jump.
The second is a demolition derby track. We have for the event pinewood derby cars to
use on this track. By the end of the day most of the cars are missing at least one wheel.
The third thing I do is a talk on seat belt safety. I place a raw egg with a rubber band
that acts as the seat belt and run it down a track with a brick at the end. Then I take
the rubber band off of the egg and let the egg fly into the brick.
-
- The track has a diameter of 3 foot 9 inches. I have the cars start at a height of 6
foot 6 inches. For the jump, the landing the sides are made out of plexiglas the wood
provides the support for curving the plexiglas to make a chute.
-
- I made this track from aluminum, since this type of track can be purchased through the
US scout catalog. Unfortunately the length is only eight feet, so I needed to splice the
track when making the loop. I made the loop by using an automobile tire that I had in my
garage to bend the aluminum track.
